    SE-EVI Series

    EVI heat pumps — 60 °C water at −25 °C outside

EVI air-source heat pumps transfer heat from ambient air to water, providing hot water up to 60 °C. The direct-heating design operates well down to −25 °C without an auxiliary heater.

Is this the right range for you?

Two minutes here saves a wasted quotation. The boundaries below are the published ones, not sales judgement.

Yes, if all of these are true

    • Your design winter is below about 5 °C
    • You need 55–60 °C hot water, space heating, or both
    • You are in the hills, or anywhere with a real winter
    • You do not want an electric backup heater in the bill

    Look at another range if

    • Your winter stays above 5 °C — see Commercial Heat Pump
    • You need water hotter than 60 °C — see High Temperature Heat Pump
    • It is a swimming pool in a mild climate — see Swimming Pool Heat Pump

    Key features

What is inside the cabinet, and why each of them is there.

    Enhanced vapour injection

A second injection port into the compressor keeps the discharge temperature down and the capacity up when the air is very cold. It is what makes −25 °C possible without an electric heater doing the work.

Low running costs, COP up to 5

    Compatible with traditional radiator systems

Reduces capital cost on a retrofit — the emitters can often stay.

    Long-life corrosion-resistant composite cabinet

Built for severe climates, where salt, snow and freeze-thaw are what actually destroy an outdoor unit.

    Benefits

What this range does for the building, rather than what is in the box.

It works when nothing else does

Sub-zero operation without an auxiliary heater. A standard air-source machine loses output fast below about 5 °C; this one is published to −25 °C.

    No backup heater to run

The commonest hidden cost in cold-climate heat pumps is the electric element that quietly does half the work. There isn't one here.

Hot water and space heating from one machine

A hotel in the hills buys one plant for both.

Why the crossover is at about 5 °C

It is not a marketing line, it is where the published data stops. The SE-AH range publishes capacity at 20, 15, 10 and 5 °C ambient and no lower. The SE-EVI range publishes at 20, 10, 0, −10 and −20 °C. Our calculators refuse to extrapolate a machine past its own tested envelope, which is why the recommendation changes on its own as you drag the temperature down.

    −20 °C
    lowest published test point
    −25 °C
    stated operating limit
    60 °C
hot water, with no backup heater

Set your winter temperature and watch it switch

Our commercial hot water calculator picks between the standard and EVI ranges on its own. Drag the design temperature below 5 °C and the recommendation moves to EVI, because that is where the published data goes. For space heating, use the space heating calculator.

And what every Sunniva heat pump gives you

True of the whole range, not just this one.

    • Up to 75 % off water heating against electric, LPG or PNG
    • Quick payback and strong return on investment
    • The longest product life of any common water-heating technology
    • Silent operation
    • Hot water round the year, independent of sunlight
    • Lower carbon emissions
    • Negligible maintenance cost
    • Saves space against a boiler or a solar-thermal field

    Common questions

The ones our engineers are actually asked.

Does it need an electric backup heater?
No. That is the point of the range. Many cold-climate heat pumps quietly rely on a resistive element below a certain temperature, which destroys the running cost exactly when you need the heat most.
What happens to capacity as it gets colder?
It falls, and every Sunniva datasheet publishes the figure rather than quoting only the best one. SE-EVI-42U gives 41.8 kW at 20 °C and 20.8 kW at −20 °C. Size on your design temperature, not on the nameplate.
Can it do space heating as well as hot water?
Yes, and it is compatible with traditional radiator systems, which keeps a retrofit cheap. Our space heating calculator sizes both the machine and the emitters — and shows how much of a radiator's rated output survives on heat pump water, which is the part most installations get wrong.
