SE-AA-DR-50

Closed-loop heat pump dryer module. Takes the water out of the drying air as liquid and puts the heat back into the same air — 60 L/h of moisture removal at up to 70 °C. R134a circuit, three-phase.

Rated figures

  • Capacities, input power and current are Sunniva’s rated figures. The specification does not name the chamber air condition they were measured at, so they are published as rated values, not against a test condition.
  • Derived figures are worked out from the rated ones and say so. Evaporating 1 kg of water takes about 2,450 kJ — 0.68 kWh — which is where the resistance-heater limit comes from.

Installation requirement

  • Dedicated supply on its own protective device, sized by a licensed electrician for the rated current above, with earthing.
  • Condensate outlet piped to a drain with a trap — the unit gives up to 60 L of water an hour.
  • Connect to an insulated, air-tight drying chamber; the air circuit is closed and is not vented outside.

How the closed loop works

The same air goes round and round — only the water leaves

Hot, dry airWarm, moist airRefrigerant circuitWater taken out
  1. 1Hot, dry air in. The module blows air at up to the rated temperature across the trays.
  2. 2Moisture picked up. The air takes water out of the product, cooling and getting wetter as it crosses the chamber.
  3. 3Water condensed out. Back in the module the moist air crosses the evaporator, is cooled below its dew point, and the water runs to drain as liquid.
  4. 4Heat put back. The heat taken out on the evaporator, plus the compressor's work, goes back into the same air on the condenser. Nothing is vented, so the heat is not lost.

Schematic — not to scale, and not a general arrangement. Tray layout, air direction and duct position depend on the chamber.

Choosing a model

Size on the water to be removed, not on the weight of product
Water to remove = wet weight × (Min − Mout) ÷ (1 − Mout)M = moisture content, wet basis, as a fraction
Worked example · SE-AA-DR-50
ProductFresh produce, 80 % moisture → 10 %
Water given up77.8 kg per 100 kg loaded
This model, rated60 L/h
Fresh product per hour≈ 77 kg An upper bound at the rated rate. The last stage of drying is slower, and many products are dried cooler than 70 °C.
What decides the size
The water, per hourWater to remove ÷ the drying time you can accept
Product temperatureHeat-sensitive products dry cooler and slower; allow for it

Installation steps

Follow in order — commission before the first batch
  1. Agree the chamber first. Size, insulation, door, tray layout and the duct openings are matched to the module before anything is ordered.
  2. Plinth. Stand the module level on a firm plinth beside the chamber, close to the duct openings so the air path stays short.
  3. Air connections. Connect supply and return to the chamber with insulated, sealed ducting. Any leak lets outside air into a closed loop.
  4. Condensate. Run the drain with a trap and a steady fall to an open drain. At full duty it carries the rated L/h of water.
  5. Electrical. Dedicated supply and protective device sized for the rated current; earth bonded; cable sized by a licensed electrician.
  6. Clearances. Keep the module’s grilles and service panels clear for air and for access to the compressor and coils.
  7. Commission. Check refrigerant pressures, set the drying temperature for the product, confirm water is reaching the drain.
  8. First batch. Weigh the product in and out and log the time — it is the quickest way to confirm the selection on your product.
